Navigation and Web Pages Needed for a Service Business Website

These are the pages needed for a service business website…

  • Services

  • Blog
  • Contact

If you offer one specific service. You could name that service in your navigation bar. This makes it clear what service you offer.

Instead of Services, for instance, you could put Logo Design.

Don’t use “Us” in your navbar

In your navigation bar use About, not About Us. Use Services, not Our Services.

There are two reasons for this. It makes your navigation bar shorter. And it’s easier for your mind to process and take in the information. Try it yourself.

Homepage | About Us | Our Services | Our Portfolio | Our Prices | Our Blog | Contact Us

Home | About | Services | Portfolio | Prices | Blog | Contact

Remove “Us” and “Our” from your navigation bar, you’ll be doing your site visitors a favor.

Drop down menus

Don’t use drop-down menus, use a good scent trail instead. This will make your website easier to use.

What is a scent trail?

Think of your site visitor as a bloodhound seeking out information. If your navigation bar has a drop-down list with several options under the services tab. You can only use a few words to describe each service. This makes your navigation confusing. And on some mobile devices, your drop-down list might be difficult to use, too.

So when your site visitor clicks the services link, take them to your services page. Then you could list all your services on the one services page. Or you could put a brief description of each service on the service page. Then link to different pages describing each full service.

People are happy to click from page to page if they are sure they’re on the right trail. And your pages load fast.

Start now, or you’ll get overwhelmed

The main point of the Client Winner system and building the pages needed for a service business website is to avoid overwhelm. So start now by doing one simple task. Copy the list of page names. Then if you offer one specific service. Replace Services in the list with your specific service.

Such as…

Services Dog Walking, Services Copywriter, Services Roof Repairs or Services Web Design.

If you offer several services, keep the Services option in your list.

If you’re building your own website, make empty draft pages for each of the pages in the list. We’ll look in more detail about how to write the content for your pages in another tutorial. If you need some help setting up a new WordPress site from scratch, Client Winner offers a good service at a reasonable price.
